March 2021 Newsletter

Beware the Ides of March

Okay, maybe we don’t need to take this literally, but then again…wasn’t it mid-March last year when COVID really took hold and resulted in schools and businesses shutting down? Everyone thought “this won’t last”, yet here we are, one year later with no clear end in sight. So, should we fret and stress about what might be coming up in 2021 or should we do like Caesar and live for today? Granted, things didn’t work out so well for Caesar. The point is, nobody knows what tomorrow is going to bring so there’s no sense worrying about it.

As Maya Angelou once said, “We spend precious hours fearing the inevitable. It would be wise to use that time adoring our families, cherishing our friends and living our lives.” Sounds like some good advice to me. We need to live in the NOW. That’s where the people are. That’s where we need to be. It’s hard to enjoy the moment if you are focusing on the past or worried about the future.

Living in the NOW is not something that comes easily for most folks. It takes practice and introspection to let go of all that baggage. I like how Ekert Tolly puts it: “Be in the now. If you can’t be in the now, realize that you’re not in the now, and then you are…”

Until next time, I’m going to leave you with this old adage: Worrying is like a rocking chair. It will keep you busy, but it won’t get you anywhere.
